Applications to attend an AGO Pipe Organ Encounter are only accepted online. To submit your application, click here. Payment of registration fees should be made directly to Philadelphia Chapter, AGO. Mail your payment to the registrar, Edward Landin. Your registration is not complete until the registration fee has been received and acknowledged by the POE host chapter.

Pipe Organ Encounters is an educational outreach program of the American Guild of Organists. Major funding for Pipe Organ Encounters is provided by the Associated Pipe Organ Builders of America. Additional support is provided by the American Institute of Organbuilders and the Jordan Organ Endowment. Permanently endowed AGO scholarships are provided in memory of Charlene Brice Alexander, Robert S. Baker, Seth Bingham, Michael Cohen, Virgil Fox, Clarence Dickinson, Philip Hahn, Charles N. Henderson, Alfred E. Lunsford, Ruth Milliken, Ned Siebert. and Martin M. Wick; and in honor of Anthony Baglivi, Philip E. INFORMATION
Scholarship assistance is available through the American Guild of Organists. Please contact the Director of the POE to which you are applying for information on initiating the online scholarship application process. In addition, students may also contact AGO chapters or religious institutions if financial aid is needed.

What is a POE?

Pipe Organ Encounters are designed for teenagers, ages 13-18, who have achieved an intermediate level of keyboard proficiency. Previous organ study is not required. Special consideration with regards to age and training may be allowed by the POE Committee on an individual basis.

Philly POE Highlights

Walk the streets and play in churches of Old Philadelphia as our founding fathers did 250 years ago. Get up close to the Wanamaker organ, the largest playing organ in the world. Visit Bryn Athyn Cathedral and Glencairn Museum, Girard College, Bryn Mawr Presbyterian, Old Christ Church. Experience a silent movie, carillon concert, and a meal at Old City Tavern, in operation since 1772.

Girard College

POE students will board at Girard College, home and school to orphan boys from 1848 to 1984, and to boys and girls since 1984. All meals including breakfast will be provided. Students will be transported the short distance to Center City Philadelphia for private lessons, attractions, concerts, and other POE functions by properly vetted volunteer drivers. Group excursions are by road-coach. Students are supervised by teachers and chaperones at all times.
