INFORMATION
Pipe Organ Encounter is for aspiring keyboard players ages
13-18. No previous pipe organ experience is necessary,
though intermediate piano proficiency is requested. The
local POE committee may choose to grant special consideration
on an individual basis for admission of a potential registrant
who age or training differs from the guidelines.
HIGHLIGHTS
Take private organ lessons with prominent professional
organists with daily practice time scheduled on some of the
Philadelphia area’s most notable organs.
Attend interesting workshops on practice techniques,
improvisation, registration, hymn playing, and preparation
for AGO Certification.
Participate in programs and workshops tailored to your
level of achievement – two tracks of classes will be
offered, one for the beginning organist, and one for the
more advanced student.
Experience an opening recital featuring Alan Morrison,
Chair of the Organ Department at Curtis Institute of Music.
Go on an organ crawl of the largest playing organ in the
world, The Wanamaker Organ in the Grand Court of the Lord
and Taylor Store in downtown Philadelphia.
Tour the largest concert hall organ in the world, the new
2006 Dobson organ in Philadelphia’s Kimmel Center, home to
the Philadelphia Orchestra.
Tour Philadelphia, the birthplace of America, and the ride on
the Delaware River on the Philly Duck Tour.
Perform in the final student concerts.
Swim and Pizza party night.
An evening at the King of Prussia mall, the largest mall
east of the Mississippi River!
Visit a pipe organ shop and see how a real pipe organ is
constructed.
Make new friends and forge new relationships.

HOUSING Students will be housed on the campus of Villanova
University, 800 Lancaster Avenue, Villanova, PA, 19085.
Full-time supervision will be provided by the POE staff,
including chaperones each day, nighttime attendants, and a
resident nurse. Contact numbers will be provided along
with registration confirmation.

APPLICATION FEES
The application/registration fee is $375, and must accompany
your completed application form. This fee covers
tuition, materials, local transportation, room and board,
special events, and a one-year student membership in your
local AGO Chapter.
Scholarship assistance is available through the National
headquarters of the American Guild of Organists. Please
contact the POE Director for information, or see
www.agohq.org. Students may also contact their local AGO
chapter or religious institution for financial aid.
All applications are due by May 1, 2006. Early registration
is recommended, as enrollment is limited.
